Red-winged pytilias for sale, (Pytilia phoenicoptera), are also known as the Aurora Finch, and is a common species of estrildid finch found in Africa. It has an estimated global extent of occurrence of 370,000 km. It is found at Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Togoand Uganda. The IUCN has classified the species as being of least concern. The red-billed pytilia (Pytilia lineata) was recently split from this species.  Also called Aurora Finch, the Red Wing Pytilia may be spotted in pairs or small groups, sometimes in the company of weavers and other finches. Feeds on the ground, and otherwise prefers to spend its time perched in trees. When alarmed, this bird will freeze in a posture where it crouches and raises its tail vertically.

Sexing: The sexes appear similar, but the hen has less intensity to the red areas, has more even/symmetric barring which extends further up the breast, and is paler/more brown overall.

Temperament: The Red-winged Pytilia is considered a push bird that mixes well with other push species, such as the crown weaver.

Breeding: Pairs are monogamous and have solitary nests which both sexes help construct.

Diet: Live food especially termites or ant pupae (very insectivorous), Classic Finch Seed, grass seeds, sliced cucumber, green seeds, chickweed. Ensure that a source of calcium supplement such as cuttlefish bone, chopped boiled eggshell, and/or crushed oyster shell is always freely available to your birds.
