Description: Known as The Good Luck Bird, Sparrow Finch, Java Sparrows, Paddy Finches, and the Java Rice Finch – Normal, it originates from Asia, but has since been introduced into many locations. In captivity, it is gregarious and long-lived. Normal Java Rice finches for sale are calm but intimidating due to their stature, as they are approximately 5-6″ from beak to tip of tail, making them suitable with more assertive finches. They were considered pests to the rice fields, hence their scientific name. DNA testing at is available to ensure gender if desired.

The head, nape and chin of the Normal Java Finch have colors of black with white cheek patches and outlined in black. The primary flight wings feathers and upper tail converts are also black. A blue-gray covers the bird’s mantle, back, secondary wings, chest and rump. The belly is a cinnamon brown color and the under tail coverts are white. Javas have red-pink beaks, legs and eye circles. Both sexes look identical with only slight differences in beak shape and color.

Behavior:  The male Java Finch is the only gender that sings.  Young male birds will attempt to sing at about 1-2 months after they fledge. In order to hear the bird sing you can separate them from all other birds. If the bird in question is a male it will start to sing after about a week of solitude.
