The beautiful Eleonora cockatoo for sale, (Cacatua galerita eleonora), also known as a medium sulphur-crested cockatoo often has pale yellow ear patches, and yellow diffusion throughout the body, especially under the wings and tail. The Eleonora also has a bald patch behind its crest. They have striking white plumage throughout and a beautiful yellow crest, hence their other name, Medium Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. They also have striking yellow feathers under their wings and bellies. They can be distinguished from other subspecies by their smaller beaks. Males, females, and immature individuals can sometimes be distinguished by eye color. Both the males and juveniles have darker eyes than females. After two to three years of age, the female’s iris will turn a brownish-red color.

Size: about 15-18 inches in length and weights about 0.66 pounds

Life Span: with care about 40 years

Sexing: DNA is needed to determine gender.

Breeding: The birds build their nests in a tree hollow or rock crevice. The female lays 2–3 white oval eggs, which hatch after a period of 30 days. Both parents incubate the eggs and in turn provide for the chicks

Temperament: These parrots are naturally curious, as well as very intelligent. Eleanora cockatoos may be less prone to developing behavioral problems such as feather plucking and screaming. They are natural chewers, and as such should be provided with branches or strips of wood to satisfy this strong urge. These birds are very affectionate and playful, and can readily be taught to perform tricks. There talking ability is considered good.  Like most cockatoos the Eleonora Cockatoo is a social bird that is seen traveling in large flocks in the wild. For this reason, in captivity they require environments where they are given plenty of attention. If they are not allowed a lot of interaction with their owners, behavioral problems, such as screaming and feather plucking may result. In general, the Eleonora Cockatoo is a loud bird and may be even louder during daytime hours when they are left alone. Elenora Cockatiels should be allowed out of their cages regularly, though they should be closely supervised, as they are curious and known to roam.

Diet: It feeds on nuts, berries, flower buds, flowers, seeds and insects.

DNA Testing

If there is no gender option listed for a bird on our website, that particular species is ‘monomorphic’, which means we’re unable to determine gender without purchasing DNA testing. DNA testing is an additional $149 per bird to guarantee preferred gender. DNA testing may add an additional 3-6 plus weeks to estimated delivery time to allow for gender results. See our FAQs for more info.
